Drilling into a lamp post

I have an old lamp post which I think is cast iron and would like to mount a CCTV on it and would like to know if I can drill into the pipe to run the cables.

Cast iron will seem hard, but you can drill it with no problem. It it is self lubricating on your drill bit due to the free carbon in the metal.
