Drill Press Adjustable Fence and Hold-downs

Meaning to do this for a couple of years...

Metal plate on the drill press....

Random piece of MDF. Needs using up. 18mm

Marking an arbitary line to determine the width...

Marking up the MDF before cutting on the tablesaw

To add some rigidity adding a skirt on the front. (ash)

Centre punching for some screws...

Screwfix twin start screws..

Cutting some side cheeks to hold it to the table snugly...

Snapped a screw - luckily managed to get the molegrips on it to extract it...

Dunno, random clamp shot...

Never thought how I'd use the handle for lowering and raising the table...

I've drawn some lines in marker pen at 5cm intevals. Just as a rough guide.

Routing a 6mm slot..

Got a sliding fence...

Adding some hold-downs...

Little hole for the countersink - thats never had a home before!

Bit of danish oil...

Hole to secure it to the table..

Bit of polish to make the fence glide...

Adam, that is a nice solution to the undersized DP tables for woodworking. It's one of the handiest thing woodworkers can add to the shop. Much nicer to have a large table on the DP than trying to get by with the OEM tables 8)

Nice one Adam. Made something similiar recently - and it's really changed how much I use the drill press. Thing is I really need a slightly bigger drill press - can't ever get anything underneath my one - especially now I've added the table!

Very nice; makes a helluva difference, doesn't it? Just don't skewer yourself on the snail as you go to adjust the height. 8-[

Snapped a screw ...

Not a screwfix one perhaps?

I used them to attach plywood to 2x2 for some signs recently and several of them snapped on when I hammered the signs into the ground.
