Can someone please tell me what is so different about the blades that Dragon supply?

I've never used them so can't comment either way, but I do find it odd that everyone seems to say that their products are superior.

Presumably they simply buy in rolls of blade stock from the manufacturers and then weld up individual blades to order. Well, dozens if not hundreds of saw doctors all over the country do exactly the same thing.

I can't imagine that Dragon (or anyone else) has a monopoly on the supply of a peculiarly superior brand of blade stock.

So what is so different about the blades that Dragon supply?

Cheers
Dan

No difference as far as I can tell.

It's not that long ago that everyone on this forum was raving about a firm called Dure Edge, saying they had the best blades, the best service etc etc. They eventually had a supply problem so members looked elsewhere for blades, and someone found Dragon on Ebay. And ever since then............... you can guess the rest :) .

At the end of the day most if not all of these firms are buying in big rolls of pre made saw blades made elswhere in the world and welding them to the size of the various machines.

In the quality blade manufacturing market there isn't that many firms making them. Even Axminster who's blades in the past were not that clever have upped their game recently.

I buy from Hamilton they are good blades and are generally cheaper than Dragon and give a good service.

It's fair to say that if you bought a new bandsaw in recent times usually (not always) the blade was of a average to poor quality, so any decent blade was always going to work wonders.

I changed from Hamilton to Dragon because the last batch from Hamiliton were badly welded, made the blade pulse back and forwards. All had to be sent back for reweld, adding to time and cost. Dragon blades seem more carefully made.

I prefer to buy products from those business owners who take the time, not only to solve their customers problems but come here to offer help and advice to non or potential customers. That includes Axminster, Chestnut, Jet, Veritas, Workshop Heaven etc. That kind of service and transparency is worth my money IMHO

This is not true.

Dure Edge produced very good blades (as good a Dragon), but stopped producing blades as they could not make a decent profit despite charging considerably more than Dragon per blade. - I was told all of this over the phone by a worker at Dure Edge.

When Dure Edge started selling blades again, they were extremely expensive .

Dure Edge made blades as a side-line in the main company whereas I believe Dragon just make blades?

Dragon have been very supportive of customers and answer questions on Forum (see above)

It is not that Dragon are the best blades (although I would say their M42 are leagues above the competition's offerings), it is the whole package from pleasant phone conversations with helpful people, good advice (not salesmanship), a company that rings you back when they say they will, a forum presence (much like Rob Lee) and a product at least as good as everyone else's whilst being cheaper or at least competitive.

I second that.

Exactly what is it Tony that you are saying is not True in my post ?????????

The first of the paragraph is certainly True, you only have to look back in the forum to see what everyone on the forum thought of Dure Edge.

When I spoke to the boss of DureEdge that is exactly what he told me, he also said when & if they start selling again the price would be going up.

The last part of my post is also true, as you only have to again look back in history on the forum.

So Tony what the **** is untrue about my post ??????????????

The section I copied into my post!!

Dure edge did not have supply problems and so stopped selling blades, they decided to leave the market as they could not make money in it.

Dragon were bought to the Forum's attention, and gained customers, when they sent a member a free blade to try out and he subsequently posted about it.

We as a company bought blades on a decent scale from Dure Edge over time.
When they stopped selling blades it left us in the lurch so to speak. So I personally spoke to the boss of Dure Edge and the explanation he gave is what is in my post. You claim in your post that your information came from a member of staff. My information came from the horses mouth so to speak.

The information I gave at the beginning of my post is correct. What is untrue about it.

And my information at the end is correct, ref member/memberss found another supplier who was selling on ebay and bought and it got posted on the forum then it took off from there. Which is not to dissimilar to what you are saying. Ok I forgot the free blade bit.

There is absolutely nothing untrue in my post whatsoever.

I have been following this thread with some interest. As a rule I am always fairly reserved about taking other peoples comments on quality and service as everyone has a different view on quality and standards of service and justly so.

My own experience is that Dragon bandsaw blades are better quality than the branded blades supplied with my bandsaw, in my case an electra beckum. The service I received was the best I have got from any supplier.

It that better than anyone else I don’t know as I have had no experience of any other blade supplier all that I can say it’s I am very pleased that I saw the comments on Dragon Saws on this forum.
