I was going to call this thread 'Can You Help?' to increase the traffic to it but changed my mind....

Anyway...

There are a couple of programmes I listen to that I invariably miss; the good news is that they are available on listen again and as podcasts. What I'd like to find it a bit of software (preferably free) that sits in the background on my computer and automatically checks for new podcasts every so often and downloads them onto my computer.
I'm using Doppler at the moment but I'm not having much luck with it; I have to open the program (can't get it to autostart) and then tell it to 'Retrieve Now' all of which seems to defeat the object. It's not a lot of bother but surely it could just do this without me having to tell it all the time?

Is anyone else doing this and have found a program that I can't? All and any suggestions welcome!

Terry, have you tried Itunes? I think the idea of podcasts is that you subscribe to the series that you are interested in and when a new one comes out it is downloaded automatically. The Wooodwhisperer podcasts are available on Itunes for example.
Cheers
John

Hi Terry,

If you are not an Itunes user, like me, then try Juice its free and downloads the things I like from the BBC and elsewhere in the background. :D

Hi Gents

Thanks for the answers; for reasons I can't explain I have an aversion to iTunes (sorry John and other iTunes fans) so I've booted out Doppler and installed Juice, thanks Dave, it'll be interesting to see how I get on with it. So far so good, but only time will tell!

Thanks again John and Dave.
