This was a small project, as much to allow me to practice using a planer and thicknesser as anything else; but, also to start thinking about how to finish real wood (it's been MDF and white paint up until now!).
The design is someone elses work so I can't take credit for that.
Sorry no WIP pictures, first after two coats of wax
Second after third and final coat
I used a table saw to cut the angle, cleaned all sides up with a no. 5, used a block plane to micro bevel all corners, and a plunge router to make the holes.
First, I sanded it with 70, 120, 180 and 240
Then applied sanding sealer; which I rubbed down with 240 grit after an hour
Then three coats of beeswax, allowing 6 - 8 hours and buffing in between coats.
The subject of finishing really doesn't appeal to me; but, having the chance to put it in practice has made it less of a dread.
Thanks for looking
David
