Ever bin to the 'Black HOLE of Calcutta?. Now, from what I have heard that's a dirty hole?
Gawd,

People don't know their history. It weren't dirty it was just too small for the hundreds of prisoners they jammed in it. Loads died but from heat stroke, being sat on, that sort of thing. There is no mention of the cleanliness aspect in any of the histories that I could find and I'm quite sure those nice Indian guards were scrupulously clean.

So, your comment is irrelevant, misleading and historically inaccurate 8)

Anyway, you should know better than to disagree with anything my wife says. Not something I do lightly. Its not that far you know.

Next?

At least you have your design for next years egg cups sorted - look forward to seeing 4 identical versions in due course (and good luck!)

I wonder what Mr Blister sir will line up for us next year. I assume there will be different challenges to face to expand our horizons.

I think one of these is definitely enough

I foresee a complete set of Greek worry beads, if they haven't sold them all to cover their dept?

All that lot and they washed their hands after they peed over the dead? Probably a tad smelly  Not that they wanted to pee on anyone, a bit like Gerald Depardue I suppose

ah but that's such a 2011 view - next year it will be different (it always is!)

I feel sorry for the man. If you get caught short, there are times when nature just won't wait. Some 'older men' have a bit of a problem in this area, I understand. They should supply bigger bottles.

For two reasons.

MOH likes it. If you like I could come and take it off your hands. :)

How very kind you are

Probably not a good idea, I hate to see women fighting. Anyway letting another turner near it might reveal all the things that are wrong with it and elicit suggestions on how to improve my technique. Hmmmm...............

No danger of that. I have so far turned a total of five pieces of wood. I'm still struggling to get an edge on the tools. I keep being told that I don't need a jig but I think by the time a get there all I'll be left with is a handle.

Aha,

I don't use a jig but am about to build one for the gouge (singular you will note). All the other four that I use just get put the stone and shortened a little bit. If you are passing, we can compare dificiencies. I'm only the other side of Villebois.

That's all you need 'cause you can get the metal bits to put in the handle no problems..

It's OK for you blokes, I have to put up with one of these lovely things http://www.oneway.ca/sharpening/grind_jig.htm

Thanks for that John. Helpful as ever.

I believe ready made anything costs money. This is a bad idea.

Isn't that similar to (the same as) one of these:

http://www.axminster.co.uk/axminster-st ... rod819724/

I am very much a beginner with woodworking (probably far too old) but I find it interesting. My third piece of turning, literally, resulted in this (with a lot of sanding

Very much "freeform" and I'm not too happy with the proportions of the feet so it isn't up for criticism but I was overall reasonably happy. Need to do better though.

I have heard it said that all the best turners have the Oneway kit :-" :-" :eek:ccasion5:

Just ignore all the flash bu..ers with their posh gear - real turners do it by hand.

As far as feet on small round tables is concerned, I would advise raising the whole thing off the floor like the attached which lightens the whole effect and also makes it sit properly as its just the ends that touch the floor.

The turning look pretty good for number three.

Have we all made one? This is one I made earlier, cherry, the top and legs are from one bit and the stem is a cherry branch. I made it about 8 years back.

I do believe that they make good pig stands too

JMck, that looks pretty good to me, but perhapse the legs are a little wide? Personal opinion only

I agree. That was where I felt it wasn't quite right. Also agree with Gordon re raising it all a bit. All part of the learning curve.

I also found out that perhaps oak wasn't the best wood to learn with. :?

Oak. No, not the easiest to turn and get a good finish. The grain is a bit too course and if you want to pyrograph anything make oak you very last choice if you're desperate!!!

Just a thought? If the legs were shortened, perhapse to 3/4 length, and small 'bun feet' were added. It would lift and seperate, no sorry  that's a bra advert init   ? It would lift and lighten it?

It would be easy to make 3 bun feet with a spigot on the top to locate in a hole under the legs :)
