I had a sort of idea about a scalloped edge vessel of some kind but the wood kept getting in the way. It had panels to start with and they were going to be decorated but the was a hole here, a knot there, another hole here etc etc.

I poked it with things occasionally and it ended up... I don't know how it ended up but it looks like this. Its boxwood with one coat of lacquer.

Wife thinks its pretty so maybe someone will buy it or maybe it will end up in the bargain bin with the other rejects - who knows :?

It looks attractive and has form to indicate it is meant to be as it is.

The wife said it would make a good candle holder, but then if it isn't to do with candles it must be to do with scatter cushions according to female decor logic!

Yup, strange and mysterious init? I'm not sure why I quite like it either. In the flesh, you can see that I didn't get the sides a dead even thickness but this actually looks very attractive because it gives the bits that are left a nice shape and variation.

Hi Colin,

I did think of a candle but the only big one I had was just too big. Ronnie said turn it down of course. Might do that just to see how it looks but as you say, it is what it is and I shall probably just move on to the next unknown.

I'm having fun playing at the moment. half ideas that sort of develop their own direction. never did like plans and instructions. Who knows where it might lead? Possibly the wood pile of course

Hmmmm. Not sure about the crystal ball idea but it does tell me what I might have done with it. It would be the perfect thing for a trapped 'impossible' shape inside. maybe a cube or a wooden ball rather than crystal. Might try and see if I can manage that.

"scatter cushions" sound far more friendly than "blanket bombs" yet sound similar in an odd sort of way, It must be too early, off for more coffee.

Lovely peice, I think a crystal atop would look pretty good though

Rats - and I was trying to get away from shiny too.

The 'oles were cut with my air tool with Dremel burrs in it. Plus the usual files to try and clean it up a bit. Must get some needle files, mine seem t have disappeared. The big files I used don't make it crisp enough.
