DJ Decks Stand

Hi,

Just joined the forum for some advice on another project I am planning. However in the mean time, I thought I'd post up my last creation. Please note I work as an accountant, so I am a far cry from some of the talented wood workers on here, but I enjoy it and can do ok! I do a little DJing as a hobby and decided to make something to house my gear for my new house.

The design was all done by myself, using good old pencils and file paper :lol: I saw a similar creation on the net which inspired me to make my own, so after some head scratching and many file sheets later, the design was born and it was off to B&Q for some 18mm MDF (my first sin, I know).

I managed to persuade the guys to cut the 8x4 board into sections per my measurements to save me the hassle, as my bench saw is broken and all I have at the moment is a jigsaw (which they did for free). When I got them home, some were a few mm out which was annoying but not the end of the world for this particular project. I then set about making my stand which went something a little like this - I'll let the pictures do the talking (apologies for the awful picture quality!)

Sawn MDF

4 boxes assembled together using wood glue and wood screws. Table top assembled and cut out to the shape of the decks and mixer. Raised sections added to angle the mixer towards the DJ.

Then its out with the Satin White and Black Gloss

Complete with upper stand (metal work purchased from eBay )

Pictures are awful I know, but may be useful to any other budding DJs out there.

Nice design Scrob, hope you screwed the dice together and to the top, otherwise easily knocked over and its not cheap to replace arms on 1210/1200's I used to repair these for a living and still have spare parts. Had some nice photos of other designs but can only find one.

Yep screws countersunk every 2 inches and jointed with PVA as well, very sturdy. The actual dice are bolted together and bolted to the top with M12 bolts and nyloc nuts, sounds quite agricultural but they aren't seen and means they are easily dismantled!

ah those were the days. I used to have a similar setup in my teens. Is that a Pioneer mixer? (M500?) I had one of those. I take it you've introduced mp3's and CD's into the mix? It was all Vinyl when I was doing it. I use Traktor or MixMiester now if I feel like a mix.

You just need a decent camera now!

Yeah the pictures are AWFUL! :lol: I will take some better ones this evening with my DSLR and give you a better idea of the finished product.

Yep, Technics 1210s along with a Pioneer DJM600, CDJ1000 and CDJ800. Got the best of both worlds, I love vinyl but it's just too damn expensive CDs are easier to mix, and I can shop for new tunes at any time and have them instantly.

I haven't used Final Scratch/Traktor before, watched a guy with it though and it looks very impressive! Apparently you can run it through both Vinyl or CDs too

yep that's it DJM500 was the one I had, must have been the previous mobel.

A couple of years ago I went through all my vinyl, putting them all into MP3 and then used Traktor to make mixes of them. Just so I can hear my whole collection whenever I want on my ipod, mixed. MixMiester is good if you just want to set it to mix on it's own and walk away from it.

Nice, tidy work. I like the dice design.

Only thing I would say is that you might find it easier (next time!) to do all the priming and painting on the inside before assembling the boxes. Still, the finish looks very good from where I am. :wink:

I think its looks brilliant, wish I had made something nice like that when I had my decks. All I had was a dodgey stand made out of chip board! Needless to say, that in the middle it sagged!
