Companies house is the only register of Directors, there will be a charge but I doubt it's much. Sounds like you have a problem with a 'Director', depends how serious the problem is I suppose.

Hi,
you create an account on the Companies House site then buy reports - what you need only costs a Pound or two. Well worth doing.
I last used it when having trouble with a company trying to screw old folks (including my parents) over disability equipment. I smelled a rat and did a bit of research including checking companies house records.
We did a bit of a sting in co-operation with local trading standards who later prosecuted. When they started their sales pitch, they denied being linked to one with a bad reputation and denied knowing of that company, but when I confronted them with hardcopy information that showed they had the same director they got a bit less pleasant.
I think the guy behind it is still in jail, sadly my parents didn't get the satisfaction of lasting long enough to see him on the TV news.
