Hello all

Spoke to my timber supplier. They don't do 4x4 in oak but they stock 3x3. It doesn't have a hole bored down the middle.

What are members view on using 3x3 for legs. One of the guys at supplier says that most of the time it behaves okay and that one in a hundred cases it splits.

Cheers, Andrew

Andrew, I've just finished a dining table with 70mm square legs cut from 3in. air-dried timber. It hasn't given me any trouble at all though, I'd still check with your yard to see how long it's been drying/hanging around and approach with some care. :)

thanks OPJ

Love your table and your blog.

Will go for the 3x3 but will check how well seasoned it is and may keep in house for a few weeks like you suggested.

cheers, Andrew
