Difference Between Startrite 351S and 352S Bandsaw

I have the opportunity to purchase a single phase Startrite 351SB bandsaw from a local college. I've bring trying to establish any difference between the 351S and 352S. Can't find a definitive answer, the best I can establish is that the 352S offers 2 speed operation as opposed to single speed on the 351S.

The spare parts diagram for both machines appear to be the same

I understand the B suffix designates a model for educational establishments, where there are locks etc to control access / use of the bandsaw.

Anyone aware of any other difference?

My Mens shed has just broken a 351 down as motor was toast.
There is/was? as one of them took the frame to the tip but know the base is still there and there was the rest of it ie wheels which are good and mechanisms plus table.

Hi Mike,

you are right in that the 352S is just the two speed version of the 351S.

Other than that they are practically the same.

Thanks Conor. Using my new acquisition and pleased with it. Had to replace the start capacitor but that was no biggie. My only real grumble is the top guide raise / lower column doesn't seem to move parallel to the blade, meaning I need to adjust the guides each time depth of cut is adjusted, but again simple enough.

All in all good bandsaw, and I'm not sure I'll miss the 2 speeds available on the 352S

Have never needed to change speed on my 352. But only use it for wood.
