Most of the explanation was contained in my interim submission. Finally it took shape and it's made an important contribution to storage in the house.

As I used the Hambridge Proportioning system each drawer varied in depth and I had to set out the rear dovetails individually for each drawer using CAD to create a paper template which I then transferred to the wood. Maybe that's unconventional.

The design may have exceeded my beginner's skills (a steep learning curve) but when I come to make a replica of it.....

Quite stunning, just love those dovetail butterfly shapes on the sides. Also the molding around the top with that inlaid bead detail. =D> =D> \:D/

Very impressive Diderot,
looks stunning, good luck in the competition,
Cheers,
Gary.

Diderot - a classy piece, well done =D> =D> and good luck in the Competition...a few observations. I think the banding under the lid makes it a little too 'fussy' for me and out of context with the Shakerish style of the piece. I think also that the exposed stubb tenons are great but question their use with the butterflies...again for me, one or the other but not both. Probably the most important element in a large piece like this is the way that the grain on drawer fronts need to match a little more closely.
These are personal observations on a very good piece of work and as I say, best of luck in the Competition - Rob

It's a really lovely piece.

I agree with Rob's comments however. The drawer fronts could have been better matched - sapwood in black walnut should be discarded unfortunately.

Beautifully designed and executed, though.
