Hi

I wonder if those of you who own one of these (there seems to be a few) get a fair bit of vibration on initial start up, before getting up to speed ?
It was quite a surprise to me and I wonder if I have a problem somewhere.

Hi Alan

Helluva racket yeah, but I don't think mine vibrates. Haven't used it for a couple of months though. I'll have a go in the morning and get back to you

Cheers

Never had any vibration on mine.

I'd be a bit worried! Is the blade tightened up properly?

Cheers

Hi Alan,

I've just been out and tried mine and there is a bit of vibration as the blade gets up to speed, which you can just feel through the handle, but nothing to speak of. Thats the same for all the speed settings by the way.

It begs the question; has this just started?

The first thing is to make sure the blade is OK and fitted properly, on this saw for some reason it is very easy to mount the blade without getting it seated properly. I did it myself once and it certainly vibrated that day

After that it's likely to be a bearing or the speed control electronics playing up.

This is a new machine. Since I've posted I have had a further play and removed the blade and tried without it, no vibration was the result. I put the blade back and the vibration returned, it is only during the intial start up period though. So I am thinking it is either out of balance vibration which is magnified by the blade or the blade itself. The vibration is quite harsh the dust extraction port flap flies up and down, and not from the draft!
If the former I would have thought the vibration would have got worse and stayed, so thinking it's the blade. The blade has lots of laser cut slots, I wonder if the intial start up torque throws it out of shape and then it sorts itself out.
I am not too pleased with it yet if I can sort it out or at least find it's normal I 'll be a bit happier. The blade wasn't loose in fact it was very tight.

If this is brand new I'd run it for a few minutes to run it in. If that makes sense

Then if it's still vibrating enough to flap the dust extraction port I'd take it back and get them to swap it, it shouldn't do that. The expansion slots on the blade won't make it vibrate.

If you can't send it back for some reason and wan't to try another blade I could send you one to try if you like.

Same as Keith here - negligable amount of vibration in the first second or so after start then runs up with no vibration (that's with original blade and the 80T I'm using at the moment).

Reckon you might want to try another blade first as Keith suggested

Good luck

I took the machine back to point of purchase and we got another new machine out and fired it up and it does exactly the same thing. I guess this comes down to how we perceive things. I've been used to my soft start routers and Elektra beckum mitre saws starting without any fuss but these direct drive machines seem to have an initial surge vibration. I don't have any once up to speed it's just that startup period. I will try running it in a bit Keith, thanks for the offer of a blade to try I'll let you know if I can't scare one up from somewhere.
Thanks for all who took the time to answer, it always helps to have another perspective on things.

Alan
