Hi to one and all.

I am looking to buy a second deep hollowing tool, I have the Hamlet Big Brother which is fine for the big vases etc, though a little limited in terms of range of cutting tips and a bit clumsy for smaller pieces.

Have seen one on EBay which is new to me and I think only available in the US. I have to say it looks to good to be true, less than half the cost of anything like it that I have seen in the UK.

The EBay reference is 330137516677 or "deep hollowing" would find it. Can I ask if anyone has purchased one or seen a review of it anywhere.

grateful for any comments.

Steve

If you have the big brother why not make some scraper tips to fit it of different shapes and maybe get a curved stem or swan neck for it. That tool on ebay is just a multi handle and a range of tips most of which you can get similar or make for much less than the tool and you already have a handle to mount them in.

Hi Steve.

I also have a 'Big Brother' and looking at the US one on ebay I reckon the Big Brother beats it hands down for scope.

You can buy bright mild steel bar of the same size to fit the brother handle, and as Russel has already said make your own tips. Or buy some from Hamlet.

Or as I have done, make a wood handle to take the spare reducing fittings you get with the handle, then buy the bright mild bar to fit and make you own again, to fit what ever tips you make/buy.

If you want to go even deeper, buy a Sorby hollowing handle/arm brace then use bright mild bar (I'm a fan) of 3/4" dia. you an get 14 - 16 inches deep if your careful before the bar starts vibrating.

Good luck in your choice.

If you want to get the best out of the big brother buy or make a gate system such as the one sold by Dave Reeks it really increase the efficiency and control of the tool. remember the big brother works better at slow speeds.
