John,

Looking at the background of your picture I can see why you use the saw as a bench  there seems to be a bench space issue
Another thing, that picture is a set up, those clamps might not be holding anything.
I think we need to see the table with the clamps at the top, unsupported by the saw, only then will we know for sure that they work!

Alan,

You can fool some of the people all of the time and all of the people all of the time but you can't fool all of the people all of the time.

Caught out again.

Bob - previous career as a creative consultant for MacGuyver...?

I had to look that one up! I think my improvisations are a little more credible to be honest.

Most of my career I have needed to produce simple low cost demonstrations of a principle in order to attract research funding to take an idea to maturity.
Lateral approaches to a problem without undue wallet strain just come naturally these days. :)

Yet another reason you're an asset to the members on this forum! That kind of advice is very useful - I have to say your suggestion for the vac-bag was one of those hmmm..........moments for me. :D

I can't believe you had to look up MacGuyver though... An institution....if a little far-fetched.

Thanks for your kind comments. I'm only too happy to spend a bit of time puzzling over problems to help others. Now I'm retired I don't get the mental stimulation that I got from the work environment. I don't miss the bureaucracy and elfin safety though!

My TV watching is largely limited to New Yankee workshop (I'm sad enough to have every episode recorded!), the news and a small proportion of the comedy output. Never heard of MacGyver before.
- honest.

I thought my Tiger 2500 was reasonable value when on offer at ~£150 ish. Tormek jigs fit, as do Jet. Tormek jigs the nicest made. This type of system really only good for grinding chisel/plane irons. To keep everything square forget the toolrest rest adjuster. Set the rest ~10mm above wheel, diamond true it, and don't move the rest again. Set grinding angle by varying tool extension from jig.
