Been really busy over the last few months, but I just wanted to thank you all for your input. Here is the finished table. You may notice on the left hand what looks like an extra piece of MDF, it is in fact a piece about of 18mm hardwood ply that I use as a removable auxiliary bench with offset dog holes (this stops with wood chips, screws and other bits and bobs falling through the dog holes).
Overall I'm very pleased with the finish, and the fact that I managed to get all the dog holes square, The total cost was around about £100, give or take. I have a few other pic's if anybody is interested, but they were not taken with a work in progress in mind.
