so, on a vase making binge, and managed to get some 2" thick ash at weekend, ideal for the centres, I thought! Planed it down to 1.5" thick so manageable on scrollsaw, cut front for vase and then drew round it for middle template, so far so good :)
BUT when I cut the centre it has 'sprung', don't know if this is normal, never met it before. Should I try to close the spring or just accept a thinner wall at top with a slightly wider opening than I had planned?
Had plans for the centre cut out but may not be able to use it now in case it does the same :(

residual tension in the piece. always a risk when taking slices off a thicker board.

Fascinating, heard of it but never experienced it before. Does it only happen if you remove a chunk, or could I run a cut down the centre to release it and then cut out after?
