I have some large hardwood mahogony peices which have a few deep cracks and a large knot in another. I wanted to know what would be the best way to patch it up as i want to stain the wood. thanks jignesh

Rather depends what you want to do with it. To be blunt, no offence intended, it looks like firewood to me.

jignesh111 welcome to the forum.

Can you cut out the defects and use what is left? Looks a bit wild so will probably keep splitting as it dries, I assume the cracks have appeared since bringing it in doors?

If it is a rustic piece then you could try filling the knot with coloured epoxy.

it was a freeby really but i wanted to see if i could patch it up and stain it. I seems pretty dry but i'm gonna try fill it up with food filler and sand it down.
