covering up dint in wood

Hi
Has anyone have experience of filling damage to varnished wood using epoxy resin if so, how good was it and what epoxy resin was used? I ask because I have put a dint in a hand rail and did not want to strip the hand rail, repair restain, revanish because with the best efforts in the word it will still show.

Try the coloured wax crayons sold for disguising furniture scratches. You will always be able to see it though but maybe less noticeable

I'd start by gluing the splinter back down, but I'd use hot hide glue and so get a near invisible glue line. CA glue would stick it down, but any residue would be very visible.

If you have liquid hide glue, maybe try that?

I would say this is quite easy and any decent antique restorer will make that invisible quite easily in half an hour. You have the huge advantage of a dark line running through. If it really matters to you, get a pro to colour it in.
