Every now and again the above goes blurry, it looks as if the icons have been dragged across the screen and the tail remains. Any ideas whats wrong and can it be rectified?

That's one of those "Oh-oh" questions. If it's a CRT, try hitting the degaussing button, if fitted. Flat panels don't have them, so don't waste time looking. Screen info gets there via the display driver - try updating/reinstalling that first. If that doesn't improve matters, try changing the refresh rate of the monitor. You might get a different shaped display, but is it any better? If it is, re-adjust the shape with the monitor controls. If neither of these work, open the window, check for passers-by ...... :)

Do you have speakers near the screen by any chance? If you do try moving them well away from the screen - speaker magnets can cause screen distortion.

Cheers :D

Just checking but when did you last clean your glasses?

I get this but only when there is a big thumb print on my glasses.

Thanks for the info, itis a flat screen and at the moment its OK, but I will follow your advice the next time it goes wonky. I guess nowadays we have to put these things down as consumable items.

Tony

I do have speakers new the screen but then they've been there for a couple of years, this problem has only started recently. Anyway I've moved them further away, everything is worth checking.

Dave

I cleaned the glasses last year, do you mean you shoud do it on a regular basis?

Its a bit like having a bath, the effects don't last as long as you would like!
I suggest you try this, every time you stand at the cabinet polishing those planes, clean your glasses when you have finished, should be able to see much clearer.
