Clamping Scarf Joints

I find myself often asking questions here which I feel probably have very simple answers that somehow I have overlooked!

I need to join two pieces of sapele to make the length I need. Its 38mm wide and 27mm thick. I will scarf join it using cuts at about 30 degrees, then I will do a small bit of router work to it.

I am wondering what the best way to clamp the scarf up. I don't intend to do any fancy joinery, just cut the taper on the table saw and glue. I could use my headless pinner to put some pins in from the back.

Just glue pin and clamp.

30 is a bit thick for a load bearing joint 1/6 better or 1/8 for masts etc.

I'd g-clamp the two pieces together with two long battens faced with masking tape and sandwiched around the two pieces.

It's not load bearing, its just a bit of moulding

It may just be a bit of moulding,but it needs to stay in one piece until it reaches it's destination.If you lift it off the bench there will be quite a load imposed on the joint just by the weight of the overhanging length. The glue joint itself may be up to the job,but will the fibres of the wood be able to resist the peeling forces?
