Hi there I have been looking on a E-Bay for a second chuck as the one I have at the moment is a Record RP3000 but it only has three jaws and I thought a four jaw would be handy, there are a few in my price range cheap as possable, what type/make is best to look for and which ones to avoid. I do realize that its a Marmite situation :? any help I would be very grateful :D My Lathe is a Record CL2 converted to 4 speed if that makes a deference.

3/4 x16 Thread size and with a choice of jaws. RP nova, G3, supernova, Sorby Patriot, Axminster, Oneway, all good. They do tend to have good resale value though so yo need to be quick or lucky to get a bargain. Might be worth speaking to Axminster see if they can do a deal on one of the outgoing ones (k10, k8 and goliath) providing you can continue to get jaws in the future?

Thanks that's was one of the things I was worrying about as I am on a tight budget I did not want to buy then find I can't get extra jaws.

I think that the new evolution chuck has the same fitting as the other axminster chucks, if so then axminster will no doubt continue with the jaws. worth a call.

All Axminster chucks (Clubman K8 & K10, Goliath, Old Super Precision and Evolution) are capable of using the same jaws and jaw carriers.

I cannot see Axminster abandoning this principle - it's their best selling feature.

Axi are doing the K10 and K8 at vastly reduced prices and I think I saw your thread size in both. Both very good chucks in my opinion.

I recently bought a new k10 not from axminster but another seller on ebay I already possessed all the jaws and the rumour was that old jaws wont fit but thank god mine all work fine im finding that it is a quality chuck. another choice could be the versa chuck that will take a lot of hard turning and if you purchase the carriers with it will take all axminster jaws another point is the jaws are for sale on the versa chuck site
Regards
Bill
