I second @Tris here, You can turn small things in a bigger chuck, with the appropriate jaws, but you would struggle the other way round. I know it all narrows down to personal preferences but I would probably go for the larger SC4, rather than an SC3.
. Bearing in mind you will, almost certainly, be buying various jaw sets to fit over the years, it might be best to start with maximum size you think you will need. That way you can avoid the cost of buying new sets of jaws if you have to move up a size at a later date.
 
If I was starting from scratch I'd go for the Versachuck, it's an extra ~£70 initially compared with the SC3, but the ability to swap out the jaw carriers and not have to scrabble in the shavings for lost screws is a major bonus
 
Tris rightly says that RP chucks can use other chuck jaws. However, my recent experience with Nova jaws (see ‘Stepped jaws’ on this forum) makes me wonder about them.
