I dug a couple of old (possibly great grandfathers) chisels out the back of my fathers old shed the other day and decided to have a crack at sprucing them up.

They were absolutely caked in paint and some horrible hard black resinous stuff, I went through half a dozan wire brushes on the Dremel getting it off.

After which I attacked the handles with an 80 grit sanding wheel, also on the dremel - lots more paint et al to remove.... One down, one to go...

All finished! Pretty chuffed with the results - time for a test drive :D .

Probably not the best way to park a chisel though!

Hi,

They won't damage the pavers or that armored cable

Nice chisels.

Those handles look like boxwood - were they painted 'deliberately'?

Dunno about the wood used, my take was it was some kind of fruit wood.... never layed hands on either though  .

They hadn't been 'painted' as such, just used to open a few tins I think  .
