In the past when I've experimented with decanting I've used glass jars and tried several things:
keep in jar with lid and leave jar on the side,
keep in jar with lid and leave inside a dark cupboard,
keep in jar and try to get a 100% definite seal using cling film,
decant into a new metal container similar to the original.
All have gone off and it didn't make much difference to what was left in the original container (it still went off eventually).
As far as I can tell, the key thing to do is minimise the exposure to air. When you decant there will be air in the new container and the old so in theory it shouldn't make much difference.
What I tend to do now is decant a small amount into a container for use during that finishing session. If there's any left I pour it back into the original container. The container is shaken every time I walk past and remember,
The only solution would appear to be, as suggested perviously, minimise the amount of air in the container using either marbles or perhaps the bloxygen which I linked to. Storing the container upside down will ensure that you can always access the oil but will surely just form a skin on the other side, which will waste oil.
