Nice job Woodbloke

If I might be as nosey as to ask about the shell?

What year was your wife in the Falklands?

I think that's actually a 105mm Howitzer Artillery Shell, I can lay claim to making over 50 of those between Dec 98 - March 99 in Kotes Armoury.

Sory to butt in, it brought some memories back :)

SWIMBO was in the Falklands from Oct '07 to Apr '08 and as far as I'm aware we were told by 'them that know' that it's a naval shell case. I think that you're not allowed to import these back to the UK any more 'cos of the scrap value of the brass, but it was a **** of a convoluted job to get it signed off before I came home (I went out there in Feb '08 for a visit) - Rob

I think you a both right - dont some destroyers have 105mm gun mount ? - if so its quite possible that they take the same rounds as a land based howitzer

Normally they come back on a warship so strictly speaking they never actually leave the UK so they're not imported.
Still a pita to get them signed off in order to get them out of the dockyard.
