I know why I buy old Stanleys and Records second hand - it's because they can be picked-up for a fraction of the cost of a quality new plane.

If offered the choice of a brand new Lie-Nielsen mitre plane or a second hand Stanley mitre for the same price, I'd take the Lie-Nielsen every time.

I note that a new LN costs $US375 and this old bucket is currently at $US859.
