Changing drive belt on bandsaw - Advice please!

Hi chaps, the drive belt on my bandsaw has broken and I don't know how to get it off as it's behind the lower blade pulley. Do I have to take the lower blade pulley off and if so how? I have the manual and there are no instructions about changing the belt. I've emailed the manufacturer and had no reply. It's frustrating and holding up a job Help please.

What model is your bandsaw?

If it's held on by a circlip, you can buy a special tool to remove that. I imagine you will also need to remove the lower blade wheel as well, since the belt (on most machines) is connected behind the wheel.

Thanks for that OJP - It's a Einhell 315 UG. The blade wheel is what I meant by Pulley wheel (that's how it's described in the manual) And it does have a circlip which I tried and failed to remove (with long nosed pliers). What is the tool and where can I get one? Does anyone know? I'm amazed they don't make it easier to get to the drive belt!!

Froggy does the lower pulley have a large nut behind it? (At the back of the machine) if so take that off and the spindle will pull out. I recently changed the drive belt on my Draper bandsaw and this is how it came apart. :wink:

I believe a 'circlip' tool is like a pair of pliers to look at, but when you squeeze the handles the jaws open outwards, to expand the clip. The nose of the pliers, are bent at 90 deg. Motor repair stores probably stock them.

Thanks Mailee and John, There is a spindle at the back of the machine that seems to be attached by 4 bolts. I loosened them all and then tried to pull the wheel out and it never moved!! I thought about giving it a tap with a hammer :roll: but at this point I thought it was best to check with you guys first. May be tommorrow I'll give it a light tap and if that doesn't work I'll try to get the circlip off. Now you mention it John I think I've seen one of those tools before; I'll try to pick one up.
