Now looking at building a car port and looking for inspiration.

It will be against the side of my property with a pitched roof.

Main thing I can't decide on is the best way to attach to the house wall. Cant decide on notched rafters into the face plate, joist hangers, or something else.

Any plans for inspiration or tips from those who have made them before?

Hey Mark,
What roof topping was you going to use tiles or plastic?

Cheers

I'm still not sure, still in the early planning stages.
I first thought about clear polycarb for the extra light, but access to clean it would be restricted so I may go for something solid and put a couple of strip lights or LED strips in there instead.

oh right ok. Whats the span that it will be going over. I would personally go with a ledger board bolted to the house wall and joist hangers to construct the roof.

EDIT.
or with the ledger board you could cut the joists to the angle wanted for the pitch and just nail that into the ledger board, I would probably say though to use some for of hanger.

In case you haven't, I've googled and There's lots of different free plans to look at, link below.
Regarding the roof, you could fix a pole plate against the wall, using Fischer or Rawle type expanding anchor bolt, or concrete screws Then set out 7"x2"rafters in jiffy joist hangers or shoes or even as in the old days, notch on to a well secured 2"x1" batten and skew fixed.
I wouldn't bother with monopitch trusses due to the expense and space loss involved.
Just pick you're prefered plans and away you go!

Hey Rodders,
Is a pole plate the same thing as a ledger board? is it a case that a ledger board is an Americanism or does it specify something different?

Cheers
Mark

Same thing, but different! A Ledger board has decking or floor joists set from it and a pole plate does the same job, but has rafters and roofing set from it.
Here in Sunny Devon, we just say pole plate, maybe it's regional!

Ah thanks rodder, was not trying to be funny was just wondering as looking around and have only seen ledger board. Trying to get use to the correct terms/commonly used terms to describe bits.
