Hi,

Can anyone recommend a decorative cutter?

What it's for is a radiator cover top, normally 18mm MDF.

I make rad covers now and again, hobby really, but normally just round over the top and I'm looking to make them abit fancier, however not too much detail as I normally have to sand it afterwards.

Or.....any other ideas for the tops?

Thanks.

Hi.

I got a starter set of 1/4" router cutters when I got my first router. It came with various cutters that made some fairly pleasing moldings. If you're looking to experiment with different cutters to make different moldings, it'd be a good place to start. I think mine cost £25 and came with 20 cutters.

Ogee one's can be fairly fancy but may be tricky to sand.

Otherwise, swapping the bearing guide on a radius (round over) bit can alow you to step-in the round over to provide some detail (does that make any sense? )

HTH.

Cheers,
Bryn :D

I can second Wealden tools, send for their catalogue, good firm to deal with, bits individually packed in plastic boxes, next day delivery, used to be free.

Thanks for the replies, looks as though it's Wealden for the cutter, however any more recomendations about what sort of cutter I need to form the decorative edge?

Cheers

That is very subjective,
the best thing to do is look in the wealden catalogue and decide what will look best in your particular circumstance.
Whether it be ogee, or bead, or roundover etc. It really does come down to what you like best.
Of course another factor to consider is the cost, some cutters are more expensive than others.
