If only I were closer to pick up some of the 2nd hand gear (incl much abused but little used turning kit) at the local car-boot (or auto-trunk if that translates??? :? )

Seriously, a real shame as I enjoyed most programmes - we need a black armband emoticon this year unfortunately!

Jesus, for a minute I thought he'd died.

As I understand it the last series was a 'revisited' type of rehash anyway. He's probably had enough by now so its fair enough. He was my initial inspiration into woodwork so I salute him.

They've done very well to have kept this going for just over two-decades. But now, times are changing, Norm's possibly getting tired of it and The Wood Whisperer is taking over the lime light...

Perhaps now, Norm can find the time to get his nose fixed....!! :D

Standby for repeats on various freeview channels I should think . I would'nt mind though , never having had access to his shows . Cheers !

Norm did such a wonderful job of popularising home woodworking - he really showed what you could do with a machine equipped shop.

There was something so relaxing about watching him as well. So refreshing that he just delivered it straight - that he didn't attempt to inject hype or pizzaz into it.....

I had read about Norm retiring from NYW a few weeks ago but just one report. It also said that he may do one off specials from time to time (maybe things he makes for This Old House). The new season of TOH that started last weekend has an 'interesting' new intro where Norm walks into screen and says, 'Hi, I'm Norm Abram and welcome to the 30th season of This Old House'. So it is still possible to get a fix of 'Norm'!

As for repeats of NYW - they don't seem to be showing any at the moment - there are certainly some episodes I would like to get decent quality recordings of, but there seems to be this tendency to move away from information/instruction and focussing on personality instead.

So did I! Ed.

I know I shouldn't, but I have to chuckle every time I read the way you wrote the above.

I'm sure Norm had good time.

I do wonder what the story is. In recent interviews he talked about 'one day' giving up the show and playing on his boat and I think this is probably the biggest factor. He's done it for a long time and I suspect doesn't think he can add anything new to the format. He's built pretty much everything. Including a whole fitted kitchen. I personally have 139 episodes recorded and there must be a hell of a lot more than that out there. It's a veritable library of woodworking!

Truth be told. I very rarely refer to those episodes for my woodworking education any more. I get much more out of the internet. It was great for stirring up my interest and passion for this rather expensive hobby, but even I don't want to be so power tool led.

And some of it might even be right!

No, they haven't shown a new series of TOH for a few years. I have a contact that provides copies of the episodes (and also Ask This Old House). PM me if you want any more info.
