I am currently setting up a smallish workshop. I have just purchased an elektra beckum PKF 255 V8 panel saw with scoring blade and i am just about to buy an edge bander.

I am now trying to find a jig system for drill the cams in the MFC, can't really find any apart from the Hafele one.

Anyone got any ideas??

Plus whats the best way of trimming the edging?, prob using mostly PVC, ABS.

Cheers

The thicker bandings really want a machine that will also trim and polish the edges, its not like the iron on stuff that can be easily trimmed and sanded. Felder have a few on special at the moment

Hettich do a lare range of multiborers and also Scott & Sargeant do a few different makes

Can I not use a dedicated trimmer or a router.
I'm not going to manufacture alot, only 1 off's.
Plus I haven't got alot of space for large stationary
Machines.

I am looking at the most cost effective way of producing
A small amount of mfc doors and cabs.

What sort of edge bander are you getting? you need a lot of pressure to apply PVC and probably a glue pot bander as the majority of the thicker ones do not come pre glued.

If you stay with pre glued melamine and thin PVC then something like a Virutex hot air bander and their trimmer will do on the melamine but a blade of some sort is better for real wood edging as you can work with the grain, I use a Veritas flush plane.

Its not easy trying to balance a laminate trimmer or even a router on the edge of a board and the PVC and ABS edgings are usually radiused and polished.

These are the details of the edgebander i'm looking at:

This the edge router i've got.

Edge router OFK 500

Compact edging professional.
• Easy to handle and lightweight
• Perfect adaptation of cutter to borehole in bench to prevent routing errors
• Stable connection between cutter and drive mechanism for maximum true- running precision
• Spindle stop for quick and easy cutter changes

Do you think this will do the job?? like i said if i was going into manufacturing on a large scale then i would be getting bigger and better machinery.

I never found a jig for cam and dowel fixings (bought from Screwfix). I ended up making my own jigs after a bit of experimentation - I also incorporated ordinary dowels as well for extra strength and rock solid positioning of components.

The most important thing is to be very accurate in the setting out and making of the jigs.
