I've bought a couple of mops for polishing oil and wax finished pieces. They fit into my electric drill and are used whilst the wood is spinning on the lathe. I'm just wondering about burnishing cream. My book recommends loading the mop with Ultrashine EEE but it's quite expensive and not many places sell it. Can anyone recommend a good alternative? Can plain old Brasso be used for this purpose or does it spoil the wood? Can a good finish be achieved without burnishing cream (i.e. nothing on the mop)?

hello, it depends upon the wood being used- i use eee and love it a tub lasts me years- if i dont use it on a wood like african blackwood the diffrence in finish is very noticeable.
u-beaut were using a play on words eee-- tripoli-so i imagine you could try a small bar of tripoli compound from a metal polishing shop.
i get my mops from here clicky

Thanks for that George. Just ordered a tub of EEE from Toolpost. Thanks also for the mop link - their prices look very good. :D

I use tripoli then diamond white. Makes a real difference to a surface that's been finished with oil.

Sometimes I just use one of the domed bristle brushes from Axminster
