No WIP thread Toby, but its just a stick with a flat on it and a lump and wedge.
The only tricky bit is paring the slot for the wedge, I make the wedge oversize and plane it to fit.

Its a homemade Hawthorne and beech mallet used but still good, Hawthorne is a fantastic wood for mallets.

Very well but now requires attention. The head is now lose and slides up and down the shaft.

I'm umming and arring about what to do next.

Quick fix = binding under the head, attached to the shaft.

The whole hog = New shaft.
 
Its on a taper just tap it upside down on the bench.

That does work but it doesn't seem to stay in place for long.

Edit:

Will give another try (harder tap) before I do anything drastic.
 
It's a double taper it should grip well try a harder tap.
