Bunch of Stanley planes for sale

I was looking through the antiques shop (Stretton Antiques Market on Sandford Avenue) in Church Stretton on Wednesday. There are 4 floors of antiques there, and a very large amount of tools for sale spread across many stalls. I saw these three Stanley planes for sale and thought I would take a photo. There are quite a few Stanleys distributed across the floors. I haven't bought anything there, but I was tempted at times, but in min mind couldn't justify it!

A No7 for £45? Well, prices must have dropped like a stone since I last followed plane prices. Not saying your wrong, just surprised.

I regularly see 4s and 5s for 10 to 20 euro. Never seen a 5 1/2 or 7, both of which I would like, but not at those prices.

In my area of the UK it's common to see 5 and 5 1/2 for £20 to £30, I bought a really nice Record 5 1/2 at a boot sale for £8. no 7s are less common but still not difficult to find for £70 to £100 for a nice example.

Until just a few years ago, Jacobs prices wouldn't have been too far off the mark but planes have become a fashioable collectors item and so prices have increased. One of my relatives does that and when I saw him a few weeks ago he honestly didn't know how many hes has but said it was several hundred though eventually the intention was to keep the best examples and move the rest on. There are many just like him who will never use a plane to make shavings which is a shame.

I bought a Stanley 5 1/2 last summer for £30 off ebay with a knackered blade, but wood handle and tote in perfect nick. A new Ray Iles blade was about £30 again and a new brass adjuster lever wotsit was I think about £8, so around £70 ex postage for a perfectly nice plane. I think the trick I accidentally discovered is to find a listing that was placed on a weekday in the morning. Everyone's at work, so you don't get outbid.
