Another strange view, imo, is people buy a house with the intent to resell and make money. That's not what i understand with living in your own home.

Hey, it's not that bad - Aviemore was the hottest place in the UK a couple of days ago! And broadband has got here; in fact, I think I get more consistent service than in Milton Keynes!
But you would have to learn the Doric to be able to converse with the locals:)

It's the winters I would worry about - I like being remote but being cut-off by 10ft depth of snow might be beyond me :)

Byron, I know you & I have discussed this before but, if you get right up in the far North the weather aint that bad.
Frosts are rare (its the sea that does it)
Snow can cut off the region but you can usually still get around without problems & little local snow

Issues are:
Wind
Long dark winters
f' king midges in the summer when there is no wind

Where I lived the broadband was faster & far more reliable than down here.

You need a portable trade & don't think the locals might not have filled every niche. In my experience they are far smarter & more sophisticated than southerners take them for.

You can buy acres of land with planning consent for about £45K
But be warned its a pastime of the locals to watch incomers arrive spend dosh & then fail.

They're enough to drive you insane aren't they?

But be warned its a pastime of the locals to watch incomers arrive spend dosh & then fail.

They run a book round here!

Roy.
