My better half wants me to make a small breakfast bar/ trolley for the kitchen. I am quite happy making the base, but the worktop is where I loose confidence. We have an offcut of the worktop to match the rest of the kitchen, but wifes design of the proposed bar requires one end of the top to be semi-circular. I presume I would normally just use the edge strip, unfortunately I don't have any that matches the top. If I can't get any matching strip, any other suggestions on something to put around a standard width 38mm worktop.

Sadly even if you can get a piece of edging strip you will end up with an unsightly transition between the rolled postform edge of the worktop and the edgng strip which will create a straight 90 degree angle (also very hard to glue). The solution if you want to use an edging strip it to take off the postform edge and use the edging strip for all four sides.

Dependent on the style of your kitchen and if you can't get hold of a matching edging strip you could again remove the postform edge and lip with a nice hardwood. Would look great in a more traditional kitchen.

I am in the kitchen business so if you can tell me the manufacturer of the top and colour way or code I will gladly try and help.

Edging with hardwood would look best but could be a bit more challenging on the curved end. If you don't want to do that and if this is one of those jobs where it's more important to do it cheaply than quickly, you could try using filler on the cut surfaces of the chipboard worktop. What I mean is the sort of two part filler sold for car repairs - Isopon or similar. You'd need to get a void-free surface and sand it back dead smooth, then you could paint it. Obviously you would need to trim off any manufactured edging first.

Deep embarrassment, I totally forgot I had posted this, so I have neglected to thank those who were kind enough to reply. A re-design is being considered to use hardwood edging
Thanks all - sorry for the delay.

Just cut the semi-circle and add the trim to the side. Lots less faf and will look perfectly fine.
