Hi All,
Thanks replys, Not sure about the wood, i'm no expert, but Mrs Loz got it for me from a joiner, and was told she was given mahogany, Ash and Oak, planks about 4x3 that i cut down to a square, and mounted on its face on a woodscrewchuck.
The rim was created by chance with that colouring as the wood seems to have been sawn with a dark heartwood ?
Might give some clues as to its type ?
i wore a disposable dust mask for sanding, but while turning there were only nice shavings.
Working with the new gauge was a dream, even rouging the square into a short cylinder was easy ( not sure if i should stick to a roughing out gauge even on that orientation of the wood ?
Can someone explain how to size my pics properly ( i use photobucket and can only seem to reduce to 640 across - and how do i get the "click for bigger view" tag ?
thanks
Loz
