Hi

I've been considering buying this little impact driver for a while, and have found it on-line for £120 with a free GSR screw driver, which seems to be a good deal, bearing in mind that it's £169.99 at screwfix without the screwdriver.

The thing is that i've not read any reviews on the impact driver, all reviews on the screwdriver are positive though. Does any one of you guys use it and is it any good.

Thanks for your comments

It is one of the best tools I own. Very comfortable and it can be holstered as it is so small. It is very powerful - will drive a 4 inch screw with no pilot hole. Bateries last for hours of continuous use, and can be recharged in 15 minutes.

Quite simply, it is brilliant! :D

Oh, and there are one or two video reviews on Youtube. You need to search for "Bosch PS40", which is the American code.

Hi Aled,

The thread title says GDR but your bargain find is a GSR two different models. I have the GSR which has a lot of grunt for it's size and weight.

Which one are you after ?

Please excuse me if I sound patronizing, but the unit I've found online is the GDR (impact driver) with two Lithium Ion 1.3AH batteries, charger, case and holster.

Bosch also have an offer until the end of the month that includes a GSR (mini drill driver) for FREE!! - The GSR is "naked" i.e. no batteries

All this for £120 inc Vat and postage sounds like too good an offer to miss.

Slim - thanks for the feedback, do I get the jist that you kinda like this tool? I'll check youtube now for the vids.

Thanks

This may not be an issue for you, but I think that the GSR included in that offer may be the older model (differences that I am aware of are no locking bit holder built-in, no brake, and max no-load speed of 400/min rather than 500). At least, where I have seen a site give details of the model of GSR supplied (www.toolstop.co.uk in this case), it gave the details of the old model - maybe other retailers provide the newer model though, so it is worth checking if you care about the spec of the GSR.

I have the older model of GSR and I think it is very good - it would benefit from the locking bit holder though, I think. I've never used the GDR.

So did mine. Havent had a chance to try them out yet - been fencing around the house all day to try and keep my two year old from wandering.

The build quality seems very good, but I was a little dissapointed that they came without screwdriver bits, I'm sure that all the other drills/screwdrivers I've bought have come with at least one #2 pozi bit.

Will try them out tomorrow and report back.

When I first got mine I was underwhelmed to say the least. It was light and a good size, but didn't seem to have the driving "power" of my Makita 12v Impact Driver.

But then I realised that the Makita had a higher RPM - about twice that of the Bosch. So although it takes a little longer than the Makita to screw, it also means you have greater control over smaller screws.

I can work for a day and use a maximum of two battery charges. The Makita (with a 2.6ah NIMH battery) would normally last a full day - go figure!

All in all I am v pleased with mine - the smaller size is a big bonus over the Makita (at 1.6kg it wasn't massive anyway).

Cheers

While this thread is still current, i'd also like to say that I can recommend the little LED 10.8v torch (about £16 off the bay). It gives a really good light, is a nice compact size and has a great (ie tight) belt clip - it won't get knocked off your belt easily. The only downside is that it doesn't have a swivelling head for light direction.

Cheers

Karl
