Did he turn it out or plane it? I would have used a plane.

I like it, especially now. It was worth removing the Ding I'm sure.

That looks like a beast of a lathe you have there :D

am i the only one who doesn't know how the ding was removed ??

in the end i sanded it of the face and edges starting with 80 grit and working through to 400, it took about 20 minutes to do- i usd the vac chuck to hold it whilist i worked.

There is a definate 'skill' in making something that's 'simple' ( in relative terms ), look so stunning.
A skill I've definately yet to learn ! :)

Thats teriffic Corny ... looks great. !
The loss of the 'ding' is the piece's gain, for sure.
Thats very very nice. 8) 8)

When looking for some background info on Bog-Oak, I found this :

Apologies if you've seen it before... its not strictly 'turnery' as such, but I thought the finished article was something rather splendid and worth the 'share' ...

Nice piece of work too.

Definitely worth the share...if onlyy to make me

The contrast between the bog oak and the yew is reall effective and the carving something I would love to be able to do.

That must be one very patient lady, the level of detail looks incredible, and a splendid piece.
