I see from a few recent posts that a number of people have invested in the Blue Spruce Paring Chisels. I am doing a pretty good job of convincing myself that I need some at the moment, but I'd love to hear any feedback from those of you using them, just to finish me off!

Would be interesting to hear any views on performance, before I get drawn in by the shiny things next weekend at West Dean.

Cheers, Ed.

You won't be dissapointed they are a joy to use and a joy to look at, I don't anyone who's got them thats said a bad word.

Waka

Thanks for that. Theres no doubt that they're a joy to look at from what I can see on the website. As much as I always look for the optimum performance from the tools I buy, its always a pleasure to own beautiful tools.

Oh and the other thing is Cocobolo or African Blackwood???

I was thinking the Blackwood...

Hi chaps,
There is a review/comparison of these chisels, against another well-known brand, in the lasteset edition of British Woodworking.

Interesting.
Regards
John. :)

I got to agree with waka. They just feel so good to use, so much so that I would say working with them increases the skill level some 50% just to do justice to the workmanship of the tool, ok it my be my imagination but for me it really does lift my mojo working with them.

I can relate to that Lord Nibbo, I've had a few mini epiphanies over the years when I've bought premium tools and finally realised how a particular process was meant to feel with the right tool.

Quite by chance (honest) I had an e-mail from Mike Hancock on something else yesterday, so in a moment of impulse I replied and asked him to reserve me a set for collection at West Dean.

Mine are curly maple and flawless. Hold an edge very well and take an exceptionally sharp edge.

You will not be disappointed

You mean you've used yours enough to sharpen them?
