The bronze thing may have been me. I have the usual hamateur's magpie eye WRT brass/bronze bits on tools, but have replaced my St James' Bay router (perfectly servicable) with an LV for just this reason. Strangley I don't notice a problem with my finger planes or brace scraper
Guess different alloys will suffer from this to a greater or lesser degree.
