I had to put the cutlery canteen on hold this weekend as I got this commision for a cross. Unfortunately the brother of one of the
guys at work died recently and he asked me to make a cross for his grave. I didn't have time for WIP pictures but here is the finished item ready for an oil finish.

Here is the front view:

The centre piece will hold the brass plate along with a larger plate at the bottom.

I bought the Oak on Firday and have been hard at it all weekend. That's two jobs in hardwood now! :D

That's superb - bet you're really proud of it.

I remember my Dad making something similair for my Gran's grave, but his was only a temporary thingy whilst the stone was being done.

I presume yours is meant to stay?

Cheers

Karl

Alan,

I think you have done a wonderful job, I would be proud to have made a memorial that splendid for someone.

Alan,
That's a nice job. As it happens I was in a graveyard a few days ago doing some ancestor hunting and chanced on an oak cross that still looked pretty good and which was dated 1974.

Nicely done.

Maybe they'll change their minds about the stone one when they see this! :D

I got the cross finished and we decided to add an angled plinth at the bottom so it would be easier to read when stood in front of the grave. I have finished it in Teak oil and now added the brass plates.

It will be taking the trip down to London and the grave tomorrow.
