Turned this box last night, trying to emulate the curves i saw in Georges WIP he posted last week.

I hope you don't mind !

Birch. sanded to 240 - no finish.

I now notice i have missed the wonderful beads George has at the join and base - Next time !

Thanks George for the inspiration to us newbies.

As a coopy it may not be perfect emulation but it's a lovely box in it's own right Loz, nothing to worry about there. Good work. and a lovely looking finish.

Thats very nice Loz .... :D
I'm sure George would be first to agree - the inspiration doesn't mean the emulation has to be an exact copy... and what you've ended up with is a fantastic box, very 'influenced' by the master, but different enough to retain and maintain a bit of your own personal 'take' on it.

I really like your effort, as I do with George's 'originals' too.

Very nice, I think the colour / choice of timber suits it too...

Great effort, and how excellent to be 'inspired' by one of 'our own'.

Great. Love it 8) 8)

Very clean lines Loz, good to see acknowledgement of where the inspiration came from but that piece stands up on it's own merits, well finished, will be interesting to see how stable it is for fit in a months time.

Really good effort. I think, for me, I'd have liked to see the lid further down the body. It looks a bit fiddly to open. Also I think triple lines are better than double. It's one of those occasions when even numbers does not work. Like planting flowers

I really want to try a box soon.

I really like the shape of the box...I feel using someones Idea is ok
if it gives you inspiration..It is like the ultimate compliment.
Like the dark banding....finishes it off nice...

Loz that looks really really nice :D
The Birch looks to be well finished and a nice colour.
I think i would have left it plain, with no burn rings :?:

Loz,

I think you've done a super job here. I hope you are in for the competition.

Brendan

Oh very nice, like the lines, must make a wire for doing them. I have been using the back of a hacksaw blade.

Had another go at this with a lump of beech i had, Took a knock this am when one of the babies got hold of it !

The body is thick on this one, as i has put my recess on my lid by mistake - Doh.

Is the timber dried out or have you used it green :?:

Hi,

The Birch was wet, the Beech dry.

My Lid on the Beech is out of proportion to the body. I might take the dody in a little so it lines up more.
