Hi,
I'm fed up of using crap allen keys that are made out of monkey metal and the same goes for screwdrivers so I have decided to get some decent ones that will last longer and not chew up screws/bolts..... but what are the best brand to go for? the last decent ones i had were years ago and made by Draper which surprised me as they were not expensive, I cannot say the same for Drapers of today though which seem to be made from aluminium CRAP.
Can anyone recommend some worth investing in? not bothered about the cost if they are top quality.
Cheers
Brian

I like pb Swiss for screwdrivers the flat tips are superb. I have a two sets of bondhaus Allen key drivers (imp and metric) they are not a patch on the pb Swiss!!

I have this set, costs about 80 quid and they have a lifetime guarantee. the keys seem pretty tough, and if you break one then they swap it out no quibble.

Just need to find out who you're local snap on guy is.

Wera always seem to be well liked. Personally the set mentioned above though would no be my choice, I like them to be hex shank so I can use a wrench if needed.

My current set actually came from Lidl, not managed to damage one yet, they are really great, cost about a tenner I think. My imperial set is draper but a good 20 years old at least, also very well made and not a hint of damage or wear from use.

My sets always stay complete and together. I have a big tin filled with random allen keys picked up goodness knows where and of course plenty of flat packs. I always keep them so that I can dedicate a key to a tool that needs it without touching my sets.

Wera,

ball-ended and cranked for hex keys, I also like their knock-through screwdrivers, series 900 as they're a bit more handy, although not stainless. I wouldn't buy stainless screwdrivers as they're not very tough, so expect screwdrivers, even Wera to rust.

Wera are good, have not worn any out in over fifteen years, BUT Snapon give you that warm fuzzy feeling whenever you use them, if only they where not so expensive.

You must be doing something wrong then. Bondhus specialise in making hex keys and supply tools to NASA.

I use T handle hex keys a lot in my workshop and unlike other companies like PB swiss that injection mould plastic handles onto standard hex keys Bondhus weld a thick steel handle on the shaft and then plastic dip it. This makes them much nicer to use and having a symmetrical handle means you can spin them for rapid fastener removal/tightening.

For standard L shape keys Facom aren't bad though.

I've got a set of Wera drivers but they aren't anything special.

I have a set of the ones on page 103 with the comfort grip handles. Its not that the bondhus are bad, and i have not smaped one i just prefer the pb swiss allan keys ones. They fit my hand better and seem better machined. However i must say agin the screwdrivers are really really good. I have hd a few snap ons and a full set of Wiha and Wera, i just think the PB swiss ones are superb i have the soft swiss grip.
I guess its a like lie niesen vs veritas vs clifton. they are all good its just what floats your boat!
