Having heard that Dragon Saws is no longer in business, where's the best place to get bandsaw blades now? I suppose in absence of any other recommendations, that i shall be ordering from Axminster.

Following Dragon's demise, I bought my last batch from Workshop Heaven. Just standard carbon ones. Post is included so for small quantities it's a good price and the 1/2" 4tpi have worked well for me. Good delivery as well :).

I put in a Screwfix blade last week and it cuts and tracks perfectly to line, they do a 5 blade offer.

But I suppose their buying department could get supplies from anywhere each time?

The word was that Axminster were now either making their own or at least having good control of whoever is making them.

I've not got this first hand though.

I think we have an Axminster insider here who may care to comment in as non-commercial way as possible, naturally

Bob - you're right, Axminster have just got hold of a 'state of the art' blade welder so blades are far superior to even a few months ago. They also do 'meat and fish' blades now which are also good as well as M42 blades - Rob

Thanks for the confirmation Rob. Shame they don't do M42 in my size 114"

Their M42s are certainly a lot dearer than Dragon used to be.

Lets hope 'Phoenix saws' starts up again soon from the ashes of the dragon.
My m42 from ian was about £16 IIRC and has cut a hell of a lot of steel (deliberately!!).

Bought an M42 blade from Axminster 3 months ago and am delighted. The words Knife & Butter come to mind.
Cheers,
Jim

Thanks - I'll probably give Axminster a try in light of the comments.

''In the year 1809 William Newberry patented a looped blade rotating on two whees one above the other , thus creating a continuous sawing action. This is much like the bandsaw of today and it remains a design classic '' Eric Graves re Success with Bandsaws .
This year 2009 being a centenary year for so much I thought I'd get a woodie one in for good measure . Did Mr Newberry have weld problems back then I wonder .

I have been buying from Axminster for a few years now, they are
exceptional quality and last for a very long time, A post mentioned Screwfix, I found nothing wrong with theirs and I always have a few to hand for when I run out of my top grade blades mentioned, they may not last as long but they are darned good value for money.
Derek.

I have used Axminster blades and can thoroughly recommend them. I also find those from Hamilton Edge Tools to be of good quality.

They cut like a butter knife?
Thanks for the warning... I might have bought one from there otherwise.

;)

A timely thread, Rob, I've been wondering where best to get blades myself. I've now got a small benchtop bandsaw - I got a few blades with it but the look like they've seen better days so I may get some new ones before I use it in anger.
