Hi,

I am currently about to start the long process of project managing my own house renovation (I know Im mad) and am looking for a good local (im based near tetbury, gloucestershire) Oak supplier (to start with) I'm going to be needing a variety of woods over the next few months/year to renovate and replace beams, windows, internal doors and a LARGE area of decking to be built.

This is the first time I have undergone a project llike this and Im keen to do it all myself rather than use a project manager, although I may start to regret this!

I am not sure what the best way of finding a good company is and would rather use world of mouth rather than just a random google search.

Any opinions on

timberpride

or

williamsbritishhardwood

These are the two I have found so far, I would rather use a local smaller company.

Thanks in advance.

I am too far away to be of any use to you, but would like to know what size oak beams you are looking for, just out of interest.
I wish you well in you're project and would suggest you try and get a knowledgeable, retired carpenter on board for some good working advice.
No doubt a closer poster will be along soon.
Regards Rodders

Hi,

While they are not the cheapest, I've always found nicks timber in gloucester to have brilliant customer service. Might be worth a try.

Hi
TimberPride who are based in Tetbury specialise in oak farmed buildings and supply oak timber too.

I know Timberpride well: they're great. Vasterns good too, and Haileywood (though not sure if they do oak).

 An acorn, planted and left for 120 years is a great source, cheap too.

Sorry!

Thanks, I have been in touch with Timberpride and they have so far been very helpfull. Interesting point about the acorn!Im in the middle of planting several small seedling trees around the grounds so who knows in the future someone may find them of use! No doubt I will keep posting on here as the project progress!

My next job is sourcing high quality glass for the windows and doors!

Thanks for all your tips, im delighted to be using a local small company and will keep you updated with how I get on with them.

+1 for Nicks Timber. I'm a hobbyist who only started in the woodworking game about a year ago and I've found Nicks to be high quality. On more than one occasion, I've dropped them an email late in the evening and received a reply almost immediately. Their range of timbers is good quality and varied also.
