Hi, I was planning on trying to make a toybox out of 18mm mdf and although the plan makes sense in my head, I wondered if people here would give me their opinion. I'm the first to point out that my skills are fair and tools are limited (no nail gun, biscuit joiner or impact driver yet).
I thought of making a rectangle out of 2" square plywood, and fixing mdf to the top of it as the base The sides would then be screwed into the frame too. The front and back would be fixed into the base and screwed into the short edge of the sides using specialist mdf screws. Pilot holes and countersink would be drilled, but would the pilot holes need to be in the narrow sides that I will be screwing into?
The top will be another piece with a 20mm overhang on the sides and front, fastened with a piano hinge and chest lid stay.
Any help much appreciated, I've got the bug but need to build something half decent before the wife will let me buy some proper tools
