Sorry for the pic quality, but this is what's been keeping me in the shedshop for the last couple of weeks.
Three sets of salt and pepper pots with their bases in Beech and Sapele and an experimental one in Baltic birch ply, (with base). All 300mm high.
The dark shadow on the left base is just the pic, it seems to have picked up the grain at an odd angle.
Can't understand though, why it's not in focus?

They look lovely John, I especially like the bases. Very Pro.

The foreground of the pic is in focus. It's the DOF that is small. Perhaps step up an F/Stop ?

Did you have it focusing directly in the middle? I think I would have pushed it up so it focused at the back.

Are you using a tripod?

If you really want to go overboard, you could introduce another light source. Maybe a desk lamp or even a torch.

Bit pushed for time when I took it, client was on his way.
Had them on the kitchen table with my lad holding a back cloth to reflect window light.
was on a tripod, the f stop was at f11, thought I had enough DOF.

The mills are 16 separate pieces, the bases are 3 separate pieces.
With only one gluing jig for the mills and one for the bases they take a while to glue up.

The exif data says you were at F16

I must try one of these grinders one day. They look very technical tho :? :D

F16 ought to be ample for dof - i would suspect camera wobble is to blame for the softness - how long was the exposure and how did you light it ?

john, i love these. i really do. very elegant. infact i could just see my butler fetching me these when i have a curry from the local takeway.

Yep, for my light tent, I use F16, ISO200 and always on a tripod using the timer. Once I've set the white balance, all I need worry about is the lighting and angles.
