Mike,

That looks a drastic way of improving the tables, I think I would roll out of bed trying to reach to turn the alarm clock off.

Don't worry Dave.........I can always cut the legs off the bed too!!
Well that would stop Daisy the cat running under the bed and Iona (white fluffy) dog jumping on and off again to see what she is doing!

Sorry Mitch, I'm not with you............which edges, and for the purpose of trying to achieve what?

I am a good way further on than these pictures show.............I'll update over the weekend.

Mike

Mike,
It looks as though you have tapered all four of the leg sides, isn't it usual to taper only the two outer faces, as in my table which you have seen?
They both look all right to me, I think you have had enough criticism on this already.
Derek.

Derek,

I tapered the inner two sides of the legs only.

I'm more than happy with the comments I've received, Derek. I don't just post so everyone can say "thats wonderful".......it would be a dull old place if that happened every time. All of the comments have been useful and positive, even if people haven't liked the tables.......and the real point is that I didn't like them! I got them wrong, put the photos on and said "I've got them wrong", and have received a whole lot of helpful suggestions.

I'll post the re-legged tables after the weekend...............I think they are going to be better than when the legs were walnut, and if nothing else comes of it I have had a useful exercise in lateral thinking. Just a pity to hash up my first work-in-progress project on a new forum!!!

Mike

Right, I've finished these tables.

Since I last posted on these I spliced some new sycamore legs on in place of the old walnut ones, just leaving a little of the walnut showing:

Then I added the drawer runners, which were of course in the way of screwing the buttons into place! I drilled a hole:

Then I made some handles with a band of walnut running through the middle:

Finally, I finished with 5 coats of Rustins Plastic Coating:

WOW! You've you certainly have achieved the rustic feel with some very fine woodwork. I would never of thought of doing what you've done. Well done.

Many thanks fellas! I am certanly a lot happier about them now than I was a couple of weeks ago.

The sincerest form of flattery and all that, The Tiddler.........you are most welcome to copy whatever you like........just don't sell it for more money than I do!

Mike

Fantastic change around Mike, the way you have thought it
through and changed it is brilliant. Very well done. :D :D :D

Many thanks P111Dom, and Kevin. This isn't a route to furniture making I would recommend: hash up the original, cut it up, and then cobble the scraps together into something half-presentable.....
